CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet review

The premium pick: a rigid helmet at £649.99, two real sizes, and the most detailed device study in this guide.

We compare hats on wavelengths, published output, coverage, session time, published clinical evidence, UK price, warranty and returns. How we review.

The CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet is our best premium helmet, at £649.99, with 120 red LEDs at 620–660 nm, 10-minute sessions and two sizes. CurrentBody reports a 31-person study over 84 days whose summary does not describe a sham helmet. The UK product page listed it as out of stock when checked on 18 October 2026.

How we compared these hats

We compared wavelengths, published output, coverage, session time, published clinical evidence, UK price, warranty and returns.

  • Wavelengths The nanometres each manufacturer prints on its product page.
  • Published output The power figure on the product page, in the units the brand uses.
  • Coverage The coverage figure each brand publishes, or “Not stated” when the page does not give one.
  • Session time The session length printed on the product page.
  • Published clinical evidence The study, series or survey the brand itself describes for that device.
  • UK price The price on the brand’s own UK page in October 2026.
  • Warranty The warranty terms this guide has recorded, or a pointer to the brand’s UK page.
  • Returns The returns terms this guide has recorded, or a pointer to the brand’s UK page.

Pros

  • Full-head shape, which caps often miss at the hairline.
  • Sizes you can measure for, rather than one stretch strap.
  • The most specific device study in this set.
  • 10 minutes, with audio built in.

Cons

  • The highest price of the four.
  • No irradiance figure to compare with the caps.
  • The study summary does not describe a control group.
  • Bulkier than a cap, so daily use is a bigger ask.

This is the helmet, and the price shows it. At £649.99, CurrentBody’s LED Hair Growth Helmet is the premium pick: a rigid full-head device, two sizes you can measure, and a study summary with more detail than any of the caps.

The UK product page listed the helmet as out of stock when checked on 18 October 2026, with an email alert rather than a dispatch date.

What are the CurrentBody helmet specifications?

The summary says red light at 620–660 nm from 120 LEDs, arranged for what the brand calls full-scalp coverage. It does not give that as a percentage. Sessions are 10 minutes, once a day, on clean, dry hair, with an automatic shut-off. Bluetooth audio is built in, which makes the ten minutes easier to keep.

In the box: the helmet, a protective base that does not charge it, a USB cable without a mains plug, and a manual. You need your own USB power source. Bundles add a face mask or a neck mask. Confirm those prices on the page.

Fit is the advantage over a cap. Measure just above the eyebrows, over the ears, and around the back of the head. Medium is 54–58.9 cm. Large is 59–63.5 cm. If you land on the boundary, think about the neighbouring size. There is no size below 54 cm or above 63.5 cm.

There is no irradiance in mW/cm² in the summary. That makes a power comparison with HigherDOSE’s 5 mW/cm² or Beauty Pie’s 20 mW/cm² a guess, so we do not make one.

The page uses FDA-cleared language. That is a US market status, not an NHS listing. A sentence mentions near-infrared at 830 nm and 1072 nm while explaining that those wavelengths are invisible. The helmet’s own bullets list red LEDs at 620–660 nm, and that is the specification we use.

What did the CurrentBody study report?

CurrentBody says Intertek followed 31 adults aged 24 to 54 with mild to moderate thinning, using the device for 10 minutes a day, with measurements out to 84 days. The figures they print include:

  • hair loss count down 72.3%
  • hair growth rate up 123.1%
  • hair density up 26.1%
  • visual hair density up 37%
  • scalp oil down 60.8%

They mark the results as statistically significant. The summary we read does not describe a sham helmet or a control group, and it does not point to a journal paper. A careful before-and-after can still leave the real question open: what would have happened with the light off. Read the percentages as the brand’s report.

The page also describes a sensitivity test, redness that should settle within one to two hours, and headaches. Those sit on the side-effects page.

Buy the helmet if you want the full-head shape, you match a size, and you will wear it daily. The category trials still matter more than any one shop study. They are on does it work.

Common questions

How much is the CurrentBody hair helmet in the UK?

£649.99. Bundles with a face or neck mask are listed separately, so do not assume they cost the same. The UK product page listed the helmet as out of stock when checked on 18 October 2026.

What wavelength does it use?

Red light at 620–660 nm from 120 LEDs. A passing mention of near-infrared elsewhere on the page is not, on its own, a helmet spec. The bullets describe red LEDs.

What did the CurrentBody study report?

CurrentBody says an Intertek study followed 31 adults for 84 days of 10-minute daily sessions and reported 26.1% higher hair density and 123.1% higher hair growth rate, among other figures. The summary does not describe a sham helmet.

Which size should I buy?

Measure above the eyebrows, over the ears and around the widest part of the back of the head. Medium is 54–58.9 cm. Large is 59–63.5 cm.
